Synopsis
Dai Ailain was born in 1916 in Trinidad. She studied in Britain, and worked in China from 1940 where she was instrumental in introducing the principles of Western ballet. In 1959 she co-founded what became the Central Ballet of China, and was the company's artistic adviser. Since 1995 the company has been known as the National Ballet of China when touring outside mainland China. She died in 2006.Profile
